For the beloved tree.
My smallness sits before you,
beneath you,
beside you,
one day below you.
Here within my slight body,
a sap blood flows.
I can tether myself to you,
but only in so much as you will allow.
When I ask
and you grant permission,
I am the leaf,
the root,
the branch.
I cannot be you.
Only you,
the tree.
